Modern Salinger
If a new salinger would come along, there would be lots of crap going around! Parents would hate the controversial literature. Now parents have more control over the media and they would def not allow their kids to read this new 'bad' stuff. I would want to read it, but it might be taken off the shelves before i could read it. =( there would be even more controversy now than in Salingers time!!!

I Agree 100%. people are soooooo cencored now a days, the books wouldn't survive!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it would cause a lot of problems between the public and the media tycoons. As for getting a copy of the book if one is published; just reserve a copy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you claire. Then again, if you flip on a TV today there are plenty of bad things. I'm sure that kids would find a way around getting ahold of the book. Think about some stuff that goes on now! Books are the least of some parents worries.
ReplyDeleteI think parents have more things to be concerned with than books. Of course there would be controversy if the books should be published or not and put on shelves. I personally think they should. Theres things that are way worse than things in books.
ReplyDeleteI agree to Claire but people do have more things to worry about then books these days but then again there are some parents out there that would take books off the shelf and sometimes thats right but other times i dont know.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it would probably cause a lot of controversy among parents, but i think nowadays there would be a strong audience that would really want to read it, since we're not as conservative these days. It might offset the balance. But then again, parents have a lot of power when it comes to that.
ReplyDeleteAssumptions, assumptions, assumptions! Claire, you have NO idea what the content of a new Salinger work would contain. Maybe shocking and controversial, maybe a book about trees. The point is there is no way to know until you see it. Just because you read one chapter of The Catcher in the Rye and I told you about the controversy, does not a controversial new book make. Free your mind. :)
ReplyDeletei agree with claire but also with mr. toland. you cant just assume that the book would be bad. you'd have to read it to have an opinion.
ReplyDeletei agree with basically everyone else... im sure it would be just as big of a hoopla as there was last time because his writing has probably just gotten more "graphic". it would deff start a lot of drama!!!!
ReplyDeletei agree with toland. all the books may be just as controversial as catcher, but then again they could all be romance novels. i dont mean to be cliche, but you cant judge a book by its cover! :)
