Other Shoes

Well, Roy and Emily F are in my group. We couldn't decide what to do in the beginning, but we are now impersonating a mentally disabled child/teen. Emily will be the disabled one and i will be her 'older sister'. Emily will dress oddly with tube socks, tennis shoes, sweatpants, and a mis-matched shirt. Roy will be our recorder as we travel. We will go to Wal-Mart on 6th Street and also McDonald's. We are not going to the close stores b/c we are afraid there will be someone there who recognize us. Emily will not say anything really b/c she is 'slow'. I will hold her hand the whole time.
I predict that Emily and I will get a lot of looks. I hope that we will not have a horrible experience. We hope that we will learn what it is like to be singled out and different.

  2. This is Matt Randall. I belive that this project is very insightfull. My step mother used to work at a public resources office in wich she worked with mentaly disabled people.

  3. I hope that this turns out how you want it to. I think the more seriously you take it, the better the result will be. With any of these projects, there is always the potential to come off as offense, and that is not the intent or nature of this experiment. Hopefully all goes well. - Toland

  4. This sounds like a very solid plan to go out with, Claire! I would personally tell Roy to use his iPhone to record because a notebook or journal will stick out. I used my cellphone and no one suspected anything fishy :)

  5. Sounds like a great idea! We went mini golfing when I was blind so josh had a pen and some paper and no one suspected a thing. I hope all went well with your project!
